The Angel Inn

57-59 [Upper] Great Darkgate Street - (01970) 617878

Behind the slightly scary entrance is a long, low-ceilinged bar with a couple of cosy corners. The back bar also has a small dancefloor which can be quite busy later on Friday and Saturday nights. This back room is also occasionally the venue for groups such as the university's rock society, RocSoc.

The Angel has a generally friendly atmosphere and pleasant staff. Apart from the club nights it's mainly popular with locals, particularly a slightly older crowd.

  • Food served
  • Dancefloor open till late

  • "During the 1980's I inspected the Angel in many different states of mind. In those days Aberocsoc discos meant half-an-inch of sweat on the floor in the back bar. We headbanged until we thought we would get brain haemorrhages (it wasn't called moshing in those days). Tick from Dick. The day they changed the strings on the guitar. The pool room. Oh sweet memories." - 3rd Stone From the Sun [Feb 2005]
  • "This was the best pub in town then I lived in Aber 20 years ago, nice to see it's still rated highly." - Peter D., Cambridge [Feb 2005]
